Chair: Dr Lisa Anderson is a Consultant Cardiologist at St George’s Hospital, London.

Dr Anderson chairs the British Society for Heart Failure, the NHS England Heart Failure Expert Advisory Group and the ESC HFA Women in HF Taskforce.

Dr Anderson led the project to open the UK's first Acute Heart Failure Unit and wrote the proposal for the NCEPOD enquiry into deaths in Acute Heart Failure (2018).

Dr Anderson has acted as clinical expert for NICE Technology Appraisals (TA10946, TA10942, TA388) and the BMA Expert Review Group for TA267.

Dr Anderson has research Interests in V122I TTR cardiac amyloid, cardiorenal HF and acute heart failure.

Dr Anderson’s subspecialty is CMR. Dr Anderson developed a T2* sequence for the detection of cardiac iron, and the paper remains one of the most cited in the field. CMR T2* led rapidly to 70% mortality reduction in Thalassaemia patients in the UK. The T2* sequence is now the International Standard and installed on all CMR scanners from all vendors.

Immediate Past Chair: Professor Roy Gardner is a consultant cardiologist for the Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Service and former Chair of the BSH Board.

Roy has specialist interests in advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory support and complex device implantation. Roy has an active research profile and is also the author/editor of two books published by Oxford University Press: The Oxford Textbook of Heart Failure, and the Oxford Specialist Handbook of Heart Failure.

Roy is also a clinical expert for NICE, and an Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow.

Chair Elect: Carys Barton is a Heart Failure Nurse Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare Trust, London and a member of the BSH Board.

Carys is an experienced heart failure and cardiology specialist nurse and has worked in several specialist areas from the first “grown up congenital heart disease” unit, to cardiac catheter labs and everything in between. She has worked as a senior cardiology nurse in many specialist centres since 1990, undertaking her first cardiac specialist nurse training in 1994 between Royal Brompton and London Chest hospitals. She has a special interest in supportive palliative care in heart failure.

Councillor: Poppy Brooks is the lead advanced practitioner for cardiac support services, Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, a member of the BSH Board and Chair of the BSH Nurse Forum.

Poppy practices as a Heart Failure Specialist in both the hospital and the community and has also represented the BSH on the Editorial Board of the BJCN and is the current BSH representative on the BACPR council.

Treasurer: Dr Patricia Campbell is a consultant cardiologist at the Southern Trust, Northern Ireland and a member of the BSH Board.

Patricia is a graduate of the University College Dublin, having completed her residency training between Ireland and the Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale. She also completed her Heart Failure fellowship under Lynne Stevenson and echocardiography research under Scott Solomon, in Brigham & Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Patricia sits on the Clinical Advisory Board of the HF charity ‘Pumping Marvellous’, and on the board of the Cardiovascular Disease Taskforce for NI as well as the Irish Cardiac Society.

Becky is an experienced heart failure nurse having worked in both secondary and community settings. Passion for providing care throughout the patient journey from diagnosis to palliative care. She enjoys leading service development and being involved in education.

Nurse Forum Chair: Delyth Rucarean

Advanced Heart Failure Nurse Practitioner, Morriston Hospital, Swansea Bay University Health Board. Chair of the BSH Nurse Forum.

Delyth is an experienced heart failure nurse with both community and secondary care experience, who currently leads an acute in-patient heart failure service. The service has recently won the NHS Wales Award for delivering higher value health and care. Delyth is committed to raising awareness of the condition and supports in advising and influencing the provision of HF nursing services at a local and national level, striving to provide equitable access to care for people with HF. She has represented the BSH on the editorial board of the BJCN and sits on the All Wales HF Nurse Forum.
